The Call to Arms: Forum D&D

Sooooo, we here at Ogeeku have heard rumor (read: have seen in live broadcast chat) that several of our fans love them some Dungeons and Dragons. As such, the wise and masterful Jon Brence has asked me to spearhead a new venture on this site. You may or may not have seen our forums section, but it does exist. Starting this week–currently planning on Thursday–I will begin running a Dungeons and Dragons campaign through the forums.

How will this work? Well, first of all, I probably won’t be able to take everyone that wants to play in this first campaign. I’m looking to limit it to 4-5 players for everyone’s own sanity, especially mine. For now, if you’re interested, keep an eye out for my post to begin the game, as it will be first come first…play. Secondly, rule book. We will be using version 3.5 for this campaign. Make characters and plans based off of this rule set (Sorry, 4e is just too WoWish for me). Also, I’m thinking of starting people off at level 5 because the first couple of levels kind of suck for most classes–not that I’m bitter after playing a low level druid or anything. Third of all, this will be distributed over time, but I would like to see how we can streamline the process. This is the internet after all. So, players can feel free to send me Twitter messages @tehjgro when they have made a post that needs my review. This should come in handy with streamlining combat. In the same vein, anything that should be held between a single or specific group of the players will be handled in private messages on Ogeeku. Twitter can then be used to let me know of these messages as well. Please be conscious of the fact that I am a graduate student these days and actually enjoy most of my classes. Also, rolling die is rather conspicuous (read: the real limiting factor).

Another important factor for players, I reward good roleplaying and going above and beyond to develop your character. XP will be given to people who develop full back stories for characters and/or draw out what their character looks like. The more that I know about your character, the more of it I can work into potential plot lines.

Now, I don’t want to spoil the intro for anyone, but I will give people this information for thinking out characters: The nation that we will be starting in believe arcane magic (ie Wizards & Sorcerers) to be taboo. I don’t want to discourage players from making these kinds of classe– in fact I think it will add interest to the party–but be mindful of what that will mean. I figure that giving people level 5 should help with this.

Please don’t be discouraged if you don’t make it into this round of play. We want to see the level of interest that this develops as much as you all do. I will also consider making a catch up post every once in awhile to let everyone know how our brave party of adventurers is doing so you don’t have to sift through pages of die rolls and out-of-character chatter.

Anyways, I hope you all are as excited about this as we are. Good luck & happy hunting.

Well since I seem to live on the site hopefully I’ll be able to jump in when it opens. If not I won’t be too sad; watching can be almost as fun as playing with the right players and we’re all crazy here!

Since I love concept over crunch Sorc/Rog seems like an interesting idea for this setting – ‘breakin’ the law, breakin’ the law!’ “It isn’t magic I’m just *really* good at my job.”

I am most definitely down, but school may interfere, so if it becomes an issue I will happily forfeit my position to the next person in line.

It’ll be good getting back to 3.5, my 4e campaign is fun and all, but I dislike the mechanics of it.

I’m pretty excited for this to get going. We just need one more person as of right now! Preferably a healer. Really looking forward to seeing where this goes, I’m interested in all the characters so far. Also starting off at level five isn’t too shabby. And I finally get to make use of my massive collection of 3.5 books to make my assassin the best heartless killer that he can be.
